Research Centre-Geology
Department of PG Studies and Research in Geology Department of PG Studies and Research in Geology is recognized as a research centre affiliated to the University of Calicut during the year 2018. The focal areas of research programmes conducted by the department include: Micropalaeontological studies for climate change modeling Hydrogeological modeling and watershed management Petrology, geochemistry, thermodynamic evolution of earth and planets Environmental sciences and impact assessments Coastal processes and beach morphodynamics Sedimentological studies to understand recent geological processes Hyperspectral remote sensing and mineral mapping Currently, 11 Ph.D. scholars are pursuing to their doctoral studies under this department. Two scholars have already been awarded with Ph.D., degree from this centre during the year 2018. The major facilities for research includes, Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS), Petrological Microscope, Flame Photometer, Spectrophotometer, GIS and Remote Sensing data processing software, sediment characterization facilities, water analysis units etc. The department has research collaboration with many international and national institutes and have produced several numbers of joint publications in this regard.
