Research Centre-Physics
Department of Physics of MES Ponnani College is a recognized research center under the University of Calicut as per the granted resolution of the Syndicate dated 28.12.2018. The theme areas of research in the center are dedicated to the development of materials suitable for energy generation, storage, and conversion applications utilizing the major developments in materials science and nanotechnology. Besides energy research, the center also deals with extensive research in biophysics and non-linear optics. Currently, in the department, there are five recognized research supervisors and ever since the recognition of the research center, more than 7 Ph.D. scholars have registered under different streams of Physics. The department is funded by the FIST Level 0 program and well equipped with an independent research laboratory for synthesizing and characterizing materials of vivid applications such as metal oxides semiconductors, complex ceramic compound systems, carbides and alloys, nanostructured materials, non-linear optical materials, photonic materials, and thin films. The major topic covered in energy-efficient materials falls under the category of solar energy materials and thermoelectric materials used in energy storage and device applications which includes the development of suitable electrode materials for supercapacitors and Li-ion batteries. The department has MoUs and Collaborations with different Universities, Institutes, and Organizations within and outside the country.
