Right from the establishment of the college in 1968, English has been taught as the first language as part of the curriculum of University of Calicut. Department of English focuses on an overall development of students, giving substance to curricular as well as co-curricular activities of students. Teachers in the department are committed to bring out the best in the students instilling in them critical thinking ability, ethical conscientiousness, egalitarian mind-set and emotional maturity. A well equipped digital language lab has been functioning as a part of English Department which aspires to build up the communicative abilities of the students. Department library is also functioning well with an objective to perk up the reading habits of the students. The department is also following innovative teaching methods using audio visual aids. Effective remedial teaching system is also put in practice by the teachers in order to find out the academic deficiencies of the students and to lift up their performance level. BA course in English Language and Literature was introduced in the academic year 2013-14 with an intake of 24 students.
